Bacterial communities in cascade reservoirs along a large river

چکیده

Dam construction is widespread, changing the hydrological and biogeochemical conditions thereby bacterial communities in rivers of earth. To date, knowledge lacking about cascade reservoirs. Here, we investigated potential functions nine hydropower reservoirs 1290 km upper Mekong River (Lancang China). Along reservoir cascade, water temperature, rather than presence dams, was main cause for geographical patterns community composition. Within a reservoir, significant spatial differences sediment were observed between tail, middle, head reservoir. The properties resulted by flow velocity-sieved sedimentation from tail to caused variation bacteria communities, forming hotspots cycling middle In contrast, unlike deep lakes single reservoirs, bacterioplankton composition had no distinctly layered features because density-induced underwater currents convection resulting production reduced vertical hydro-environmental gradients. This study provides novel perspective on processes affecting distribution function river-reservoir cascades, first step toward forecasting consequences microbially mediated existing future worldwide.

Bacterial diversity along a 2600 km river continuum

The bacterioplankton diversity in large rivers has thus far been under-sampled despite the importance of streams and rivers as components of continental landscapes. Here, we present a comprehensive dataset detailing the bacterioplankton diversity along the midstream of the Danube River and its tributaries. Using 16S rRNA-gene amplicon sequencing, our analysis revealed that bacterial richness an...

Large scale distribution of bacterial communities in the upper Paraná River floodplain

A bacterial community has a central role in nutrient cycle in aquatic habitats. Therefore, it is important to analyze how this community is distributed throughout different locations. Thirty-six different sites in the upper Paraná River floodplain were surveyed to determine the influence of environmental variable in bacterial community composition. The sites are classified as rivers, channels, ...

Limnological and ecotoxicological studies in the cascade of reservoirs in the Tietê River (São Paulo, Brazil).

An evaluation was made of the quality of samples of water and sediment collected from a series of reservoirs in the Tietê River (SP), based on limnological and ecotoxicological analyses. The samples were collected during two periods (Feb and Jul 2000) from 15 sampling stations. Acute toxicity bioassays were performed using the test organism Daphnia similis, while chronic bioassays were carried ...

The role of a cascade of reservoirs and seasonal variation in the phytoplankton structure in a tropical river.

This study aims to analyse the influence of a cascade of reservoirs on the density, richness and functional groups of phytoplankton in the Contas River, a tropical river of Brazil. This river has two dams along its course, forming the Pedra and Funil reservoirs. Samples were collected over three consecutive years (Dec., 2007 to Dec., 2010) at 28 sampling stations along the river. We identified ...
